NAUGLER, Derek
1972 ~ 2026
Mr. Derek James Naugler passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Derek was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on November 21, 1972, to Doug and Paula Naugler. The family later relocated to Red Deer, Alberta where Derek lived until his passing. Derek was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the fall of 2025. He handled diagnosis, treatments and his battle with positivity and strength. Despite all efforts from his medical team, he passed away due to complications from Crohn’s disease after a bone marrow transplant. With the love of his bride and girls by his side, he was called home peacefully at the age of 53.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years Monique; and their daughters, Nico (Urban) and Trinity, who all reside in Red Deer. His grandchildren were his heart, Kinsley and Nikolai, who will deeply miss their Papa. He is also survived by his parents, Doug (Wendy) and Paula Naugler; and siblings Kim (Ben), Brad (Stephanie) and Erin (Tyson). He will be deeply missed by his in-laws, Darrell and Marlene Reason (Fort Simpson, NWT); and was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Randy John Reason in 1999.
Derek will be remembered for his sense of humour, dedication to his family, and strong faith. He was a talented carpenter and scaffolder, who took pride in his work. Derek took up and developed a love and talent for pottery later in life thanks to his daughter Trinity. Over the years Derek enjoyed mountain biking and spent his share of time and talent improving Red Deer’s Mountain Bike Park. He enjoyed camping, snowboarding, and several trips to Mexico, with his beautiful wife Monique and his friends. In recent years he enjoyed anything that involved their grandchildren. Derek loved to wind down by playing poker, working in the garden, and also enjoyed taking in some live music provided by his wife and close friends. His unwavering love and devotion to his family and friends was felt deeply. He will be missed by his people around the world. Monique, Nico and Trinity would like to thank everyone for their tremendous outpouring of love and support during this very difficult time.
Derek was laid to rest at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer County, in the Garden of Serenity.
