With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shawn Fowler at Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday,
February 11, 2024 at the age of 53 with family and friends at his side.
Shawn is survived by his loving wife Linda Ann (nee Savary) Fowler, father Neville Fowler,
brother Paul Fowler (Kent Staines), and sisters Marlene Sweett (John Elston), and Catherine
Yates (Andrew) as well as nephews Ben, Alex, Aidan and Taylor, and niece Hannah. He is
predeceased by his mother Alice (nee Muise) Fowler and his parents-in-law Layton Savary and
Joyce (nee McGuire) Savary.
Shawn was born in Scarborough, Ontario on March 30, 1970. He was one of four children
adopted into the Fowler family by Alice and Nev. The Fowlers lived in Ancaster, Ontario for
many years before moving home to the East Coast in 1981.
Shawn and Linda grew up an hour from each other in Nova Scotia. He was raised in Yarmouth
and she lived just up the coast in Digby. They met in 1995 almost 5,000 km from home while
working as young people at the resorts in the Canadian Rockies in Alberta. A couple of
Maritimers far from home, they hit it off right away and married in Digby, Nova Scotia on
September 5, 1998. They laughed at each other’s jokes as husband and wife for a quarter of a
century.
Shawn and Linda returned to Nova Scotia from Alberta and spent their early married life
together in Halifax. Opportunities in Western Canada beckoned once more, and the pair packed
up their car and moved to Red Deer in 2005. A meat cutter by trade, Shawn looked forward to
starting work at Olymel. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed various jobs over the years,
including in grocery meat departments and concierge services. He and Linda shuttled many
folks home safely as drivers with Red Deer Driver Take Home & Delivery. Shawn loved Red Deer
and made the city his home for 20 years.
Shawn had a soft spot for animals. He doted on his big dogs, but he was a cat lover at heart. He
was especially attached to his multi-coloured calico Lana, a diabetic he adopted and lovingly
cared for.
Shawn loved to spend his free time baking and cooking delicious comfort food. He enjoyed a
good laugh, country music, old trucks, classic cars, motorcycles, RVs – anything on wheels. He
was a fan of funny movies, home renovation shows and retro TV like Happy Days and Smokey
and the Bandit. He dreamed of one day owning a cabin in the woods.
Shawn will be remembered as an exceptionally kind, generous and hard-working husband, son,
brother and uncle. His optimism allowed him to persevere through adversity and always remain
cheerful. He will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
