Mr. Martin Anthony Coyle passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the age of 57 years. Martin was born in Glasgow, Scotland, where he attended Our Lady of the Annunciation Primary School. He emigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings on April 26, 1977. Martin attended the Penhold School, Innisfail High School, and, when the family moved from Penhold to Delburne in 1981, he attended the Delburne Centralized School, where he “truly earned” the valedictorian honor for his graduating class. He also won the Andrew Rutherford Scholarship. From there, he went on to study music at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton and became a member of the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra for five seasons. Over the years, Martin worked in various fields as a truck driver, retail salesperson, concrete finisher and stringliner, and was self-employed as a music teacher to students of all ages, specializing in drums and percussion. He was also a talented artist (inherited from his maternal grandfather) and was commissioned to paint outdoor wall murals for businesses in Central Alberta. Like his dad, Martin was a dedicated soccer fan, especially of Glasgow Celtic; and he recorded matches to show his dad, when he visited. Although Martin struggled with addictions for many years, he was a kind and forgiving person who never held a grudge. Martin had a keen interest in WWII History and a great respect for war veterans. His last recorded words were to a friend on Facebook, the day before his death, expressing his intention to attend Remembrance Day Services in Medicine Hat, where he resided at the time of his death. Martin will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Margaret of Delburne, Alberta, his brother, Kevin of Red Deer, and his nephew and niece, Nicholas and Emily Coyle. Martin was predeceased by his father, William (June 17, 2023) and his mother, Patricia (December 16, 2000). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
