Mr. Benjamen Kary ‘Ben’ Ward, ‘Joe Kickass’ was “assassinated” on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the age of 57 years. Ben was born on June 13, 1966. He was a vibrant soul who approached life with an infectious sense of humor that was as insane as it was contagious. In keeping with his unique sense of humor, Ben playfully insisted that his obituary should mention an “assassination”. However, his family would like to clarify that he passed peacefully, albeit unexpectedly, with his favorite girls, family, and best friend by his side.
Ben’s presence in our lives was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and resilience. His remarkable life, filled with wild escapades, made him an enthralling storyteller. His stories were not just tales of adventure; they were life lessons woven into captivating anecdotes, which allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, and offer guidance drawn from his colorful past. The real twist in his tale began when he met the love of his life, Jane, who helped him to channel his unrelenting work ethic into achieving his dreams of establishing the family business “Vikings With Manners,” and acquiring a treasured property in Riondel, British Columbia, where he created lasting memories with his loved ones. His legacy of hard work, perseverance, and the desire to help others will continue to inspire those who knew him.
For Ben, family was everything, and he will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jane Ward, and his cherished daughter, Chelsey Ward-Blight. He also leaves behind his beloved pets, Gizmo, Stripe, and Rainbow, who were like second children to him. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Lionel Ward; his sisters, Sasha and Ryley Hryciuk; his stepmother, Dorothy Ward; his son-in-law, Ryan Blight, and the many nieces, nephews, and friends he was blessed with along his way. Ben was predeceased by his mother, Jane Shirley West-Sells; and his father, Donald Ward.
A Celebration of Ben’s Life will be held at the Kimberley Elks Club, 240 Howard Street, Kimberley, British Columbia on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. We will come together to honor and remember the remarkable man who brightened our lives with his pranks, stories, laughter, and lessons. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Ben’s honor, may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca, to continue his legacy of helping those in need.
