It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Deborah Ann ‘Debbie’ Gerlywich at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the age of 57 years. Debbie was born in Calgary, Alberta on December 26, 1965, to Hector and Irene McDonald. As Debbie’s parents were ministers, they spent much of their time travelling. Debbie spent most of her young childhood in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, before moving to Barrhead and then to St. Paul, where she graduated High School. Debbie completed a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology at NAIT and then continued in Education at the Northwest Bible College for three years. During her twenties, Debbie loved to travel with many of her friends. She spent half a year in Australia. During the early part of her twenties, she attended Youth With A Mission. Shortly after returning from Australia, she began dating Kevin Gerlywich, who she met at Moose Lake Bible Camp. They were married within the year and settled in Athabasca, where they lived for six years. They had two children, Kirsten and Michaela. In 1998, Kevin was transferred to Red Deer, where they made their home for the rest of Debbie’s life. Debbie loved Red Deer and had two more children, Joel and Aliyah, completing their family. Debbie was a dedicated wife and mother, and she was actively engaged in church activities at the Liberty Christian Assembly, such as, attending women’s Bible Studies, teaching Sunday School, and singing on the Worship Team with her husband, Kevin. Debbie was dearly loved by all her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Debbie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Kevin; her son, Joel (Tristin) Gerlywich, her daughters, Kirsten (Micah) Flynn, Michaela (Andrew Adams) Gerlywich, and Aliyah Gerlywich; and her granddaughter, Sierra Flynn. She will also be sadly missed by her brother, David (Barb) McDonald; her sister, Heather (Michael) Crouse, along with many extended family members. Debbie was predeceased by her father, Hector McDonald.
