WOHLGEMUTH, Mark
1965 – 2025
On the evening of Thursday, August 21st, 2025, Mark peacefully passed with his life partner Rosanne, and loving family, by his side. Mark was born in Calgary, Alberta, on February 24, 1965, and was adopted into the loving arms of Lena and Henry Wohlgemuth. Mark grew up in Crooked Creek and ventured to many other places in Alberta and British Columbia. Mark met Rosanne in Drumheller in 1985 and from there, they built their life together in Grande Prairie, Parksville, and finally settled in Red Deer. Mark began his career in the oilpatch at the young age of 16. Many exciting ventures came from this, including bringing his expertise to the extraction of ‘black gold’ in Russia for two years. Mark began a joint venture sawmill business on Vancouver Island with one of his best friends, Larry, but his heart always belonged to the patch. Mark worked for different companies in the industry but finished off his career with some of his incredible coworkers and lifelong cherished friends at Pure Energy in 2011. Even though Mark’s heart was in the oilpatch, his heart had other plans. In November 2011, Mark’s heart failed, and he began the fight of his life. On November 27th, 2013, Mark received a new lease on life, and the selfless gift of a new heart. A gift from a family that lost a loved one and will never truly know the gratitude and endless love from Mark and his family. Mark was an avid drag race fan, loved all types of race cars, and even dreamed of building his own dragster one day. True to his Alberta heritage, he was an Oilers fan through and through, right until the end. He loved camping and hunting and spending time outdoors. Due to his new gift of life, he was able to spend many weekends and summers doing all the things he loved with Rosanne, never once taking any of these moments or memories for granted. Sadly, in the spring of 2025, Mark was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Mark processed the diagnosis with the same mind set as when his heart began to fail and was ready to fight for his life again. His mind and heart remained strong until the end!!
Mark leaves behind to cherish his memories, his Soulmate, Rosanne; daughters, Stephanie (Brett), and Beverly; and his ‘Fur Son”, Rocco. His five beautiful grandchildren, Shayla, Gavin, Thomas, Kayden and Kyran. His Brothers, Bob, Nelson (Lois), Karl (Amy), and Earl (Vi); sister, Andy (Luke); brothers-in-law, Duane (Laurie), Greg (Georgia), and Brent (Julie); sisters-in-law, Denise, and Cathy (Ian); and his many adored nieces and nephews, and longtime friends! Mark was predeceased by his mother and father, Lena and Henry; sister, Terry; nieces, Angie, and Corey; and nephew, Christopher.
Rosanne and her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Mazankowski Heart institute, Dr. Kim, and the entire transplant team. A heart-felt thank you to Marley, Lynn, and everyone from Red Deer home care and palliative home care teams. A very special heart-felt thank you to the entire healthcare team of Unit 32 at Red Deer Regional hospital, especially Dr. Yam, Dr. Rubensohn, and Dr. Brar, who provided exceptional care to Mark in his final weeks and days. Rosanne would also like to extend her thanks to the healthcare members at Red Deer Hospice for their compassionate care.
