GUNDERSEN, Phyllis Mae
1964 – 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Mae Gundersen (nee Waseluk) on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the age of 61 years. Phyllis was born to parents Rudolphe and Doreen (nee Montgomery) Waseluk on Thursday, May 14, 1964, in Calgary, Alberta. Phyllis passed away after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. In her final days, she was surrounded by family and friends who loved her deeply. Throughout her journey, she faced her health challenges with remarkable strength and resilience, never losing her warmth or spirit.
For the past six years, she resided at Bethany CollegeSide, where she was cared for with compassion, dignity, and love, affectionately known as “Momma”. Phyllis brought comfort and connection to those around her and will be remembered for the quiet strength she carried through even the most difficult moments. Phyllis was always known for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and compassion. She had a deep love for animals and a natural ability to bring warmth and comfort to everyone she met. Her presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Dwayne, of 37 years; her children, Kyler and Victoria, and Kurtis and Jade; her sister Iris and her husband Bill; and her mother Doreen. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at Bethany CollegeSide, who cared for Phyllis like family and made a profound impact on her life. We also thank the dedicated staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital ICU, as well as her family physicians, for their care, guidance, and support especially in her final days.
A Celebration of Life in Phyllis’s memory will be held in Summer 2026. Those wishing to attend are asked to reach out to the family for further details.
