It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Shaun Layne Brinkhurst, beloved wife of Mr. Jim Brinkhurst of Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the age of 61 years. Shaun was born in Kenora, Ontario on September 25, 1962. Shaun leaves to mourn, her husband of thirty-eight years, Jim Brinkhurst, their three sons, Colton Brinkhurst (Andrea), Travis Brinkhurst (Amber), and Maverick Brinkhurst, all of Red Deer, Alberta, and her beautiful and cherished grandchildren, Declan and Braelynn (parents, Colton and Andrea). , Shaun spent her early years in Northwestern Ontario, her family then relocated at points in time to Southern Ontario and Alberta. Shaun attended St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario and upon graduating, moved back to Kenora to work and live, eventually meeting the true love of her life, Jim Brinkhurst. Shaun and Jim were married on September 13, 1986, in Kenora, Ontario and welcomed their first son, Colton there. Their first adventure was a move to Whitehorse, Yukon where they lived for six years. Then, their second son, Travis and third son, Maverick were born. She loved all the outdoor activities that living in the north provided, including some unique experiences of panning for gold, dog sledding and visits to the klondike in Dawson City. Shaun continued to teach piano while living in the north, which she really enjoyed. They eventually moved to Brandon, Manitoba, based on a job opportunity for Jim and to be closer to family. This move introduced the whole family to living farm life and Shaun got to embrace the next love of her life which was having horses. The family lived in Brandon for seventeen years, and as the boys were growing up, they enjoyed an acreage that provided opportunities for farming, quadding, horseback riding, horse boarding and meeting many new friends. Their next adventure took them to Red Deer, Alberta which enabled Shaun to reconnect with friends she had made while growing up in Three Hills, Alberta. She continued her love of riding horses and enjoyed all Alberta had to offer including camping, boating and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed volunteering every year at the Festival of Trees fundraising event for the Hospital Foundation. No matter where Shaun went in the world, she made friends with everyone and stayed in touch with many of them over the years on Facebook. She was always there supporting friends, no matter what they were going through, and always checking in to see how they were doing. Shaun also enjoyed travelling to many destinations, however her favorite was the warm sun and hot sands of Mexico. Shaun loved spending time with her grandchildren, Declan and Braelynn. This always brought a smile to her face and joy to her heart – to her there was nothing more important than family.
Shaun would have wanted everyone to know how much she appreciated the kind words and encouragement over the years, as she battled cancer, and for recognizing her determination to stay healthy for as long as possible.
