We are very sad to announce the passing of Mrs. Karen Shearer (nee Huseby) of Eckville, Alberta, the same way she lived her life, surrounded by her family at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the age of 61 years. Karen Thora Shearer was born on September 28, 1962, to Ken and Bernice Huseby. She was the little sister to Marilyn, John and Brian, and the big sister to Kevin and Travis. Karen was born in Eckville, grew up by Gilby, and always knew that Eckville was home. Karen became an aunt at the young age of thirteen, a role she took very seriously. All her nieces and nephews knew their auntie was always a phone call away and had their back no matter what. After completing High School, Karen followed her sister to Mackenzie, British Columbia, where she worked for B.C. Rail. She stayed there for about five years, before returning home and deciding to pursue hairdressing. Hairdressing was a perfect career for Karen, doing what she loved and being able to talk to people all day. In 1987, Karen met the love of her life, Randy Shearer and they were married on July 28, 1990. In August 2000, the light of her life, Wyatt completed their family. Karen was so proud of everything Wyatt accomplished, always his biggest supporter in everything he did. Spending time with her siblings and family was so important to Karen. Growing up with five siblings and numerous cousins, she learned how to stand up for herself and was never afraid to share her opinion. She was the firecracker of the family and would always be able to make you laugh. She welcomed each of her siblings’ spouses into the family with open arms, and always made sure they were treated as one of the family. Like her mom, Karen always had time to stop and chat with everyone wherever she went. Karen met so many people while hairdressing in Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Eckville. When she could no longer work full time, she worked out of her home, often including coffee and a visit to the appointment time. Karen always had a yard full of flowers in the summer, and decorations in the winter. She loved baking and sharing her treats with everyone. Christmas was the favorite holiday for Karen, the tree would go up early and stay up late. She loved making this a special time of year, giving gifts, and she was never quite done her shopping. Left behind to cherish the memories are her husband, Randy and her son, Wyatt; her siblings, Marilyn and Tom Byers (Ryan, Rhonda, Christina and families), John and Darcey Huseby (Chad, Cody, Krista and families), Brian and Dawn Huseby (Raelyn, Jeff and families), Kevin Huseby and Cathy Reddy (Kendra and family, Brent), Travis and Leanda Huseby (Brayden, Jennifer and families); her father-in-law, Jim Shearer, and Randy’s siblings, Linda Whiting, Marty Shearer (Heather and Matthew), Tracy Shearer, Monty Shearer and Rhea Postoloski; as well as, her special, lifelong friend, Tracy Hainsworth and many treasured friends, cousins, aunts and uncles. Karen was predeceased by her father, Ken Huseby; her mother, Bernice Nygaard, her stepfather, Ernie Nygaard; her nephew, Brad Huseby; her grandparents, Eli and Johanna Dyrland, John and Connie Huseby, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Karen’s Life will take place at a later date, to share our memories of this special lady. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
