Carla Leah DeBord

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Carla Leah DeBord. She fought her battle with cancer courageously and passed with family by her side at the age of 63. Carla was born in Calgary, Alberta, to Evelyn and Vern De Bord. At the age of five, Carla and her family moved to Kamloops and eventually to a farm, where she showcased her love and devotion for animals and the beauty of nature. In her teen years, she and her horse, Whistler, participated in gymkhanas and rodeos throughout central British Columbia. After this time, she was never without four-legged furry creatures in her home. As she found her own path, she lived in different towns in British Columbia and Alberta and eventually settled in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, with her family. After many years, she moved to Rimbey, Alberta. Carla was fiercely independent and resourceful. She taught us how to manage finances no matter the budget, and how to cook the best — and still our favourite — meals. She was resourceful in everything she did, especially in her home renovations, which she enjoyed and looked forward to. Carla will be remembered for her fierce determination, her independence, and her love for animals and nature. She was predeceased by her parents, Vern and Evelyn De Bord. She leaves to mourn her beloved daughter, Charlie; her sons, Max and Leighton (Kalei); her grandchildren, Decimus, Amelia, and Bronson; her love and best friend, Alan Schmidt; and her sister, Laura (Vladimir).
