It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and little brother, Mr. Gary Owen Shook on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the age of 60 years. Gary was born at 2:00 a.m. at the Kamloops Hospital, Kamloops, British Columbia on July 12, 1960. His birth thrilled his four older sisters very much, as well as his parents. He was then brought home to Grouse Creek in Upper Clearwater, British Columbia; where he spent his childhood, surrounded by nature and his loving family. Gary began his schooling in Clearwater in 1966, transferring to Nelson, British Columbia in 1971. During 1977, Gary moved to Calgary, Alberta to begin his career in carpentry. In 1978, he returned to Clearwater and married his High School sweetheart, Cindy Adams on August 30, 1980. Gary and Cindy then moved back to Alberta; where Gary continued on with his carpentry career. He later became a Journeyman Carpenter and formed his own company ‘Shook Construction’. Gary became so proficient with his carpentry skills that he rose to the top, winning the Western Canada ‘Golden Hammer Award’. His first daughter, Courtney was born on October 10, 1981, followed by his second daughter, Melissa who arrived on March 26, 1985. Gary loved to camp, fish and go on quad trips with his family, in the Alberta Foothills. Gary will be forever remembered for his gentle kindness, his shy smile, quiet ways and his devotion to his family. In carpentry, there is a saying that “Everything is Level, Plumb, Square and True”. As a person, Gary was all of that, and more, to everyone who knew him. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cindy Shook, his daughters, Courtney Pusey (Corey) and Melissa Shook (Nathan Hanoski) and his granddaughters, Kennedy, Eden, Ryan and Raven. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Eleanor Shook, Bonnie Keats, Mona Planiden and Nancy Shook, as well as many relatives and friends. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Charlie Shook and Barbara Ferguson. If desired, Memorial Donations in Gary’s honor may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario, M4V 2Y7 or at www.cancer.ca.
