Mr. Blair Sydney Michael Woolward, beloved husband of Mrs. Marlene (Brown) Woolward passed away with his family by his side, at the Red Deer Hospice on March 28, 2023. Blair was born at Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Greenfield Park. As a young adult, he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia and then on to Kamloops. In August 1988, Blair began his policing career with the RCMP. His first posting was at St. Paul, Alberta and from there his policing career took him to Red Deer, and then Camrose, where he was promoted to Corporal. He was later promoted to Sergeant and moved to Fort Chipewyan. During his policing career, Blair developed a true passion for traffic enforcement, especially on the RCMP motorcycle, and he became a Harley Davidson Police Motorcycle Instructor in 2009. Blair retired from the RCMP in 2012, after 24 years of dedicated service. As well as a passion for riding and taking any opportunity to go on a bike trip with his friends, Blair loved beach holidays. He especially loved going to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which was one of his favorite places. After retirement, Blair worked in Northern Alberta doing security investigations; so many of his colleagues became friends and those special bonds and relationships continued even after his second retirement. Blair loved his children very much and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Blair was many things to many people, and he had a special way about him; he touched the hearts of all who knew him. Blair eventually returned to Red Deer, and in September 2022 he married Marlene, with whom he shared a deep and treasured love. Blair will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marlene, his three sons, Jeremy Woolward (Lacy) of Calgary, Alberta, Derrick Woolward (Amanda) of Innisfail, Alberta, and Brandon Woolward of Steinbach, Manitoba, and his two granddaughters Madisyn and Sawyer. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Neil Woolward, his sister-in-law, Donna Woolward, his nephews, Geoff Woolward, Shawn Woolward and Paul Woolward, and his niece, Christina Ingimundson. Blair was predeceased by his parents Charles and Fabiola “Ola” Woolward (nee Rodrigue), a sister, Adele O’Neill (nee Woolward) and a brother, Larry Woolward. An informal gathering, “Blair’s Farewell Ride” will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 between 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Hideout, 411 Lantern Street in Red Deer County. Blair’s family wishes to acknowledge all the staff at the Red Deer Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. If friends so desire, donations may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at 99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3S6.
