It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kathryn “Kathy” Jean Rowland (nee Peterman) announce her peaceful passing with her loving husband Kevin holding her hand on Thursday, March 12, 2026 in the Olds Hospital at the age of 65 years.
Born July 6, 1960 in Olds, Kathy was the beloved fourth of five children born to Lyle and Agnes Peterman. She grew up in Olds where she completed her schooling and then went on to Olds College where she received her Office Administration certificate. Kathy worked in several administrative roles where bookkeeping became her specialty. Throughout her working life she was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the quiet reliability that made her someone employers and coworkers could always count on.
December 13, 1979 became a Kathy a mother to Jason whom she was overjoyed to have in her life. She loved being a mother. Kathy then met Kevin Rowland and they married September 30, 1989 and Kevin says he was the luckiest guy in the world!! Together they raised their family in Olds for the remainder of her life. Many challenges were met throughout their 36 years but they faced them together with the strong bond of love they had for each other. They built a life centered on the simple joys of spending time with family and friends. When her grandson Seth was born her life was complete. Being a grandma was a new role she welcomed with open arms and embraced every moment they had together.
Outside of work, Kathy enjoyed softball, camping, golfing, and volunteering with her one true love being curling. She enjoyed curling immensely until she could not longer participate but continued to watch whether it was live in a rink or on television. She never missed watching a game when her niece Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant were playing.
She found happiness in bringing people together making small traditions that made life special for everyone. Kathy was an excellent cook and always had food ready to be served even for folks arriving unannounced. She will be fondly remembered for her Halloween popcorn balls, delicious cinnamon buns, and her famous buttermilk cookies that family and friends eagerly awaited. Her love for many different genres of music was impressive. She had the voice of an angel and could often be heard singing. She had an infectious laugh, a wonderful sense of humour, and a warm generous spirit. She was always willing to lend a hand volunteering to many causes or to offer encouragement giving her time and energy to worthy causes. She enjoyed volunteering her time supporting causes that were important to her including the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Olds & District Hospice Society.
Kathy also had a huge love for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Olds and the church family that came with it. She was a devoted parishioner for many years singing, helping others and sharing her love of her religion.
Kathy’s infectious laugh, warm heart, and welcoming kitchen will be remembered by all who knew her. Her memory will continue to bring smiles to the many lives she touched. The hole she has left in all our hearts will never be filled, but her memories will live on in all of our hearts.
