It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Laura Dawn Haarstad of Bentley announce her passing, in Red Deer, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the age of 65 years. Laura, beloved daughter, sister, wife, momma, and friend, was born and raised in Alberta, where she grew up on the family farm. Throughout her life, she worked hard and lived in various places, including Red Deer and on the Island in British Columbia, always cherishing the bonds she made along the way. Laura was known for her love of being around others, her sense of humor, and her infectious cow jokes.
“Sisters are like seashells, snowflakes and precious work of Art, each is as unique as treasure!”
She was especially close to her sisters, Donna and Sandy. Laura called Donna every day, always telling her how much she loved and appreciated her. She shared a similar bond with Sandy, often calling her and reminiscing about their youthful adventures Such as picking up boys together. Despite the sixteen-year age gap, the sisters were inseparable and remained a constant source of support for one another. Her relationship with her son, Doug was equally special. Whenever they spoke, Laura would end the conversation with, “I love you to the moon and back,” to which Doug would always reply, “I love you to infinity and beyond.” Her passion and love extended deeply to her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and even her great great grandchildren. Laura had a creative spirit. She loved sewing, tinkering, and making dolls. Collecting them brought her joy, and she often gave them away to bring happiness to others. Laura will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband, Denny Haarstad, her two sons, Douglas ‘Doug’ Maygard and Dave Haarstad, her two daughters, Stephanie Giesbrecht and Brenda Kerns, her six grandchildren, her six great grandchildren, and her two great great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Donna Maygard and Sandra Dietrich. A Memorial Service will be held in in the Spring of 2025. Laura’s warmth, humor, and love for her family will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
“She was a soul who touched many lives always beaming with a smile and gave the best squeezed hugs. She will be treasured forever in our memories!
