Mr. Harlan Jean Hanson was born on July 15, 1959 in Red Deer, Alberta to parents Gordon and Merle. He was a colourful, mischievous, and fun character. He spent his childhood with his three sisters on a pig farm out by Joffre. Their mother would sometimes gather them around the piano to sing, and she would always end with the dance tune “Boogie Woogie.” Harlan’s love for music with a good beat was deeply engrained. He especially loved the music of Van Morrison.
Harlan excelled in math, and, although he dropped out of school after grade nine in Red Deer, he went on to become a gifted carpenter, building large homes in the Kingston, Ontario area, doing everything from the foundation to the finishing. His finishing carpentry was his best-known art form.
Spending good time with friends and family was a priority, and he built a workshop that was also a play shop, complete with a great sound system and a bar. And the music and dancing continued…
The life of the party died in his sleep in his beautifully renovated (almost finished) home near Kingston, Ontario on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the age 65 years. He leaves to mourn his partner of thirty-eight years, Lydia Alves; his three sisters, Shelley Rue (Neil; Stacey, Braydon and Terisa and Athena, and Colby); Sharon (Terry Krushel; Jessie and Dan and Francois; Denver and Catherine), and his sister, Terry, who married his best buddy, Rob Hydomako (Rachel; Rebecca and Colton), as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends and football pool fanatics.
If desired, in honor of Harlan’s love for animals, Memorial Donations may be made to any Animal Charity of one’s choice.
