McLEAN, Donald ‘Michael’
1959 – 2026
Mr. Donald ‘Michael’ McLean of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Unit 32, on Friday, February 20, 2026 at the age of 66 years. Michael was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on November 28, 1959. He was raised initially, on the farm in Plenty, Saskatchewan and attended the United Church and other local groups. He also enjoyed the company of his grandparents and a special Uncle Donald who lived just across the field from the farm. In 1971, Michael moved to Red Deer, Alberta with his mom and both of his sisters, as his parents had divorced. High School was attempted back at the farm; however, he met with better success going to Red Deer College adult upgrading. Good marks got him his Electrical Rewind Mechanic certification, and he was able to work with his uncle Les at McAuley Electric in Red Deer. He decided to go for a career more so in social work, so he took university courses at Red Deer College and got into U of C. Courses included psychology sociology, criminology, human sexuality, criminal justice, interest in delinquency and court systems, as well as geology and Canadian history. Michael’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, writing books on hunting, psychology, social situations, and mental conflict, and completing beautiful paint by numbers, which he gifted. Michael was single with no children; however, he did have two “foster supports” through Home of Hope Kenyan Children. Michael was a lifetime member of Word of Life Church now known as “Home Church”. A good relationship for both sides. He sang with a choir for a while and even sang at Drumheller Penitentiary and was faithful to prayer groups, “helps”, and 24-hour world prayer, etc. He was absent for weeks enjoying Edson and relatives’ ranches as well as time at family cabins in Saskatchewan. Michael was a youthful friend to many people with varied disabilities – driving them, visiting, and bringing them to meals, as well as introducing them to God. Some names include, Eli, Suzanne, Mike, Al, Kelly, Jaquie, Marilyn, Donnie, Dennis, Delbert and Warren. He also had many favorite pets, Laddie, Misty, and Sneakers. Michael had an interest and followed his mom in doing handy cam footage of family reunions and weddings for our future enjoyment and for that we thank you Michael.
Michael will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Rick (Marion), and his sisters, Janice and Jayne (Mike), and brother-in-law, Robin. He was predeceased by many important people to him since Covid including his mom, Marylou in 2024, and her father, Archie in 1996, who Michael sorely missed. Michael did not write down any wishes for a Church Service, instead his wishes were to have two Graveside Services that will be announced at a later date, taking place in Plenty, Saskatchewan and Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
