It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy Lee Pugh (nee Whitney) at the Red Deer Hospice on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at the age of 68 years. Cindy was born on March 15, 1958 in Ponoka, Alberta to Donald and Gladys (nee Orom) Whitney. She was raised and attended school in Bashaw, Alberta until her high school years, when the family moved to Red Deer, Alberta. Cindy was an avid dancer, attending lessons and competing from a young age, which led her to perform in musical theatre and highland events. At age 18, Cindy married and started her family in Lacombe, Alberta. After Jocelyn and Ryan were born, the family moved to the farm near Mirror, Alberta, where Cindy worked part-time and raised the children. When her first marriage ended, Cindy moved back to Red Deer, where she began her thirty-two-year career as a permit clerk for Alberta Transportation. In 1998, Cindy married Troy, the love of her life, and spent the next twenty-eight years having adventures in the cab of a big rig, or on the back of a motorcycle; seeing incredible sights across North America, and vacationing in the Caribbean. In 2002, Cindy welcomed the first of her three treasured grandchildren, and they became the joy of her life. Spending time with Nana and Papa at the Burbank campsite, helping Nana with her plethora of bird houses and feeders, caring for her plants, and enjoying lazy nights by the fire became a favourite summer activity for Kaiden, Avery, and Teagan. Cindy’s selfless dedication to, and boundless love for, her family was unquestionable. We like to say that even with her heart so full with all of us, she could always make extra room for just about everyone she met; from a fellow bargain hunter at Value Village, to a stranger in need of empathy, to the amazing health care professionals that cared for her later into her darkest days. She was always able to meaningfully connect with people and leave them with a little piece of her positive energy. Cindy’s parting will leave an unfillable hole in this world, but her legacy of kindness will live on through all those she touched. Journey well Mama, we love you. Cindy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Troy Pugh; her children, Jocelyn (Jason) Frank and Ryan (Christina) Carlyle; her three grandchildren, Kaiden Frank, Avery Frank and Teagan Carlyle; as well as numerous family members and dear friends. A Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Cindy’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
