Wayne Jaffray passed away on Friday, January 27th at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton at the young age of 65. Wayne has battled through many health issues for the last few years but finally, his lungs could no longer fight off Covid Pneumonia. He passed away, fighting until the very end, surrounded by loved ones.
Wayne was best known as a easy going, kind hearted, hard working, loving and caring man. He was a gentle soul that could be stubborn beyond belief and tough as nails. He worked hard for his family his whole life and was present for every memory possible.
Wayne was born and raised in Rimbey. At 16, he left and went up North to be part of the first crew to break ground on the roads into Alaska. After visiting his brothers Gord and Rod in Kitimat, he came home and started his career working for Alberta Wheat Pool at the age of 18. As he grew with the company, he continued to work for Agricore United and Richardson Pioneer and had just recently retired. He was proud to show off all the grain elevators in Alberta that he worked at and helped build.
Wayne spent the majority of his life married to the love of his life, Diane. They were married for 34 years before she passed away 11 years ago. They had three children together, Steven, Jason and Ashley. Wayne and Diane spent their entire lives supporting their kids in every endeavour. They spent years on baseball diamonds and hockey rinks cheering their kids on and giving them the lives they have today. Jason (Michelle) and Ashley (Ryan) gave Papa his most prized possessions, his grandkids Kennedy, Jaxon, Owen and Emmett. He went from supporting his own kids to supporting his grandkids in the stands at hockey, gymnastics, baseball and lacrosse games. All he wanted was to live his retired life watching his grandkids grow up.
Wayne received a kidney transplant 4.5 years ago from his sister (Patsy), and because of this, he was given a second chance at life and enjoyed the last part of his life watching his family and creating memories. In this time, he also met the second love of his life, Carol. They were able to travel together, camp with friends and enjoy running around watching all the grandkids together. Carol and Wayne had just taken the entire family at Christmas to Disneyland for a once in a lifetime trip together. His family is beyond grateful that Wayne was blessed with two amazing women in his lifetime.
Wayne was predeceased by his mother (Frances), father (Harry), brother (Gord), sister (Brenda), wife (Diane) and son (Steven). He has a lot of company up in heaven while he looks down, watching over his grandchildren.
All donations will be given to the Grey Nuns Hospital – ICU Department. We will forever be grateful for their care and support dad received over the past few weeks.
