CADEN, Marilyn
1957 ~ 2026
Mrs. Marilyn Louise Caden (nee Boyce) passed away at noon on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the age of 68 years. She was surrounded by family as she took her last breath, with snowflakes softly falling outside.
She was born on July 26, 1957, to Harold and Dorothy Boyce (nee Rachar). She was incredibly blessed to grow up in a large Christian farming family with 3 brothers, 5 sisters, and some very special foster children who were welcomed into their home. Marilyn was a Central Alberta girl. Her childhood years were spent in the Erskine and Stettler area until moving to Three Hills for high school. After graduation, she returned to her family home in Lacombe and later moved to Red Deer.
Marilyn married Peter Caden on October 16, 1982, beginning their 43-year “two become one” life together. They were faithfully committed to each other, sharing and surviving all of life’s ups and downs together. Their family grew first when Justin was born in 1984, and again when Chara was born in 1986. Peter and Marilyn excelled in raising their family to always “do what you know is right,” instilling and demonstrating principles of faith, hard work, generosity, and caring for others. In 1996, Peter and Marilyn packed up their family and moved across the world, serving as missionaries in Mongolia for 3 years. Marilyn demonstrated her gifts through her careers in childcare and hospitality. She valued providing hearty meals to all those in need—feeding many young children, college students, individuals in recovery, and especially “her seniors” at the Pines Lodge in Red Deer.
Marilyn’s life is a testament to God’s faithfulness as Father, Provider, Redeemer, and Saviour. Even in her own times of trial, she was always ready to share a smile and words of encouragement with anyone who needed it, stranger or friend.
Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her husband, Peter; her children, Justin Caden (Hailey Klaver), and Chara (Matt) Poffenroth; her fiercely loved grandchildren, Paige Poffenroth, Bethany Caden, Isabel Caden, and Carter Caden; her brothers, Ken (Audrey) Boyce and Murray Boyce (Arlene Deacon); her sisters, Kathy (Sterling) Burrell and Bev (Lowry) Burrell; special in-laws, Doug Plett and Jayme Bennett; many, many deeply cherished Boyce family nephews and nieces and their families; brother-in-law, John (Michelle) Caden; sisters-in-law, Monica Caden (Dan Howard), Rita (Tom) O’Leary, and Theresa (Paul) Koolhaas; another special in-law, Carol Caden; and many more Caden family nephews and nieces who, although most are distant by geography, were dear to Marilyn’s heart. She will also be fondly remembered by her special friends, Terry Sartorius and Nancy Pike.
She is now reunited with two precious infants: her unborn child and her grandson, Benjamin. She is also predeceased by her parents, Harold and Dorothy Boyce; her parents-in-law, Eugene and Lillian Caden; her brother, Doug Boyce; her sisters, Lois Plett, Diane Gessleman, and Christine Boyce; her brothers-in-law, Al Thibeau, John Gessleman, Christopher Caden, and John Hermary; her sisters-in-law, Angela Hermary and Lahny Boyce; and her nephews, David Jordanoff and Patrick Caden.
Marilyn’s family will forever be grateful to the extraordinary staff of Red Deer Home Care, the Palliative Care Resource Team, and the Red Deer Hospice for their compassionate, dignified, and honouring care during her final days.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will take place in the Chapel at CrossRoads Church, 38105 Range Rd 275, Red Deer County, on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral will be livestreamed at the following link: https://www.crossroadschurch.ca/livefunerals
