It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mrs. Barbara ‘Barb’ (Bummer) Parton of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, surrounded by the immense love of her immediate family, on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the age of 66 years. Barbara Wynne Parton (nee Scott) was born on November 5, 1957 in Didsbury, Alberta, to Evelyn and George Scott. She grew up in the community of lower Fairview in Calgary, and on the farm in Didsbury, until meeting the love of her life, Hugh. Hugh and Barb went on to build their life together in Sherwood Park, Alberta, welcoming their two beautiful daughters. Barb spent many weekends with her husband and daughters enjoying the outdoors, camping and fishing. Barb was also very accomplished in her banking career at ATB Financial, serving fifteen plus years, meeting many lifelong friends along the way. As the years went on and her children grew, she chased them around all the activities they were a part of. Barb spent many weeknights and weekends cheering on her daughter, Kelly, while she played volleyball. Once Barb retired from ATB Financial, she decided that she wanted to be near her grandbabies. In 2014, Hugh and Barb moved to Sylvan Lake, where they created a warm, loving home for their daughters to visit, and her grandchildren to play. May Barb (Bummer) be forever remembered for the love she had for her family, the laughter and the love her grandkids brought her, and the beauty of her hard work in gardening and quilting, and the joy she felt being with her sisters, brothers-in-law and all her nieces and nephews. Barb will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Hugh; her daughters, Sara Kathleen Parton and her partner, Greg Warner, Kelly Karrisa Lawton (nee Parton), and her husband, Logan Lawton and their four children, Kane, Ella, Mackenzie and Harper; Barb’s father, George (Helen) Scott; her younger sister, Sheila and her husband, Brad Tonita and their family; her brother-in-law, Ken Arthur and his family. Barb was predeceased by her older sister, Cathy Arthur (nee Scott). A Private Family Service will be held for family and close friends. As Barb enjoyed spending her recent years watching her grandson play hockey, the family asks that, if desired, Memorial Donations in Barb’s honor may be made directly to the Eckville Arena Operating Association, Box 393, Eckville, Alberta, T0M 0X0. 403-598-1079 (Arena Treasurer).
