Debora “Deb” Coombes was born on October 17, 1957, in Didsbury, Alberta. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Olds, Alberta, on February 8, 2026.

Deb dedicated 40 years of her life to a meaningful career in nursing. Throughout her career, she became actively involved in the AUPE union, where she grew into a passionate union activist and strong advocate for others. After retiring from nursing, Deb continued her commitment to public service by serving a term as a councillor for the Town of Bowden. She loved being active in her community and had a deep interest in local politics.

Family meant everything to Deb. She cherished time spent camping, relaxing around a good campfire, and especially fishing. One of her greatest joys was following her grandson, Rance, across North America to rodeos. Supporting him brought immense pride and happiness to her life.

Deb also found great companionship and love in her beloved dog, Festus — a dog who, in her eyes, could do no wrong.

Deb is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ashley Coates (Dustin), and her grandson, Rance Coates; her eldest daughter, Sandra DesMazes, and her two children; her parents, Jim and Barbara; and her brother Russell (Connie) and sister Linda.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Paterson Community Centre, 2101 – 27 Avenue, Bowden, Alberta on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
