LAPORTE, Barbara
1957-2026
Barbara ‘Barb’ Ann LaPorte passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 69 years. Barb was born on January 6th, 1957 to Jacquiline Bissonnette in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Barb was a woman whose love for her family was as strong and spirited as she was, leaving a lasting impact as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. She spent her career showing compassion and taking care of others working as a care worker for LIFE. Her grandchildren were the absolute light of her life. She never missed an event as they were growing up and was always the loudest voice in the crowd cheering them on. Her grandchildren brought so much joy to her life. Barb loved taking road trips across Canada with her spouse Fred, to visit family and friends in Ontario. She especially loved going to the mountains and enjoyed adventures big and small. She had a deep love for animals, and was especially fond of her two cats, Cloud and Carmel. Barb is forever remembered by her two children, April Shrum (Gene Shrum) and Jamie LaPorte (Kendra LaPorte); her grandchildren, Nia LaPorte, Bishop LaPorte, and Taite Shrum, her two nephews Sean (Sienna) Laporte and their two children and Owen (Veronica) LaPorte. Barb was predeceased by her spouse, Fred Davidson, her Mother, Jacqulin; and her brother John. Barb had a gift for seeing the good in people and in every situation. She lived life on her own terms and was unapologetically herself. Her honesty, humour, and fierce loyalty made her unforgettable.
