Ms. Mary Roberta Smith Chopping of Innisfail, Alberta passed away at her home on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the age of 69 years. Mary was born on June 25, 1955, in Melville, Saskatchewan to parents Robert and Agatha Smith. In 1973, she married Bruce Chopping of Dubuc, Saskatchewan. They resided on a farm there and had four children, Jason, Jeremy, Jessica and Josh. Mary and Bruce separated in 2013 but remained friends through the rest of her years. For many years, Mary worked as a cook, but her dream came true in 2004, when she ran her own restaurant. She had a love for cooking and baking. That was something she was known for – her delish food. She also loved to plant flowers and grow a big garden. Mary was always sharing her garden and canning with friends and family. In 2018, Mary met her partner, Gordon Rienks. They moved to Innisfail Alberta, where she retired. They loved to camp and travel to see family.
Mary was a wonderful mother, friend and coworker. She will dearly be missed by so many loved ones. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her spouse, Gordon Rienks, her three sons, Jason (Marella) Chopping, Jeremy (Amanda) Chopping, and Josh (Ray) Chopping, all of Dubuc, Saskatchewan; her daughter, Jessica (Barry) Chopping of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and her ten grandchildren, Mason, Mathew, Myles, Rylan, Gavin, Jace, Jordynn, Jolene, Emily and Dylan. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Robert in 1996 and Agatha in 2008; a brother, her grandson, Dylan in 2013, her grandson, J.J in 2014, and her daughter-in-law, Lindsay Leach in 2023.
