KIDD, Samuel
1955 ~ 2026
Mr. Samuel ‘John’ Kidd passed away at home on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 70 years. He was born in Lurgan, Northern Ireland to Sam and May Kidd. At the age of two they came to Canada by ship, The Empress of Britain, and settled in Edmonton, Alberta in 1957. Later they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where his brother Bill joined the family. They went back to Edmonton from 1962 – 1968 at which time a third brother, Dave was born. In 1968, the family returned to Ireland where John attended Electrical Engineering at several Technical Colleges. The family returned to Canada and ended up living in Red Deer when John was eighteen.
In Red Deer, John met Janine and they were married in 1981. They welcomed two daughters, Angela and Sarah. Over the years John had several jobs from tow trucking, roofing, and oil field safety. He retired from maintenance work and enjoyed various hobbies. Most of all, John was a motorcycle enthusiast and historian. John was a friend to many and was always available to help by using his talents in mechanical repairs. John was never afraid to try new things or talk to new people. John will be greatly missed.
John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Janine; his two daughters, Angela (Ky), and Sarah (Shawn); and his grandchildren, Kache Langevin, and Mykelti Macleod. John is survived by his brothers, Bill Kidd and Dave Kidd of Leedale, Alberta; and his nephew, Tyler Clemence. John is predeceased by his parents, Sam and May Kidd.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Elks of Canada Hall, 6315 Horn Street, Red Deer, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of John may be sent to the Historical Society of Alberta at https://albertahistory.org/.
