It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bruno Ethier at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the age of 68 years. Bruno was surrounded by family and close friends in his final hours before departing this world.
Bruno was born on May 10, 1955, and raised in St. Albert, Alberta, until he moved to Grande Prairie, during his High School years. Bruno attended Grande Prairie Composite High School, where he competed at the Western Canadian finals in Track and Field as one of the top athletes in the Peace Country Region.
Bruno loved to travel. After High School, he rode his 10-speed bike all the way from Grande Prairie, Alberta to Florida. Later, he explored Central and South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia before settling down to learn his trade. Bruno began framing houses and quickly built up his carpentry skill. He soon started his own business, Bluenose Carpentry, providing general carpentry services. Bruno eventually settled in Penhold, Alberta on an acreage, helping to raise his children, Lucas and Ellen. His carpentry skills allowed him to become a restoration craftsman working on historical buildings such as the Markerville Creamery, the Dickson Store Museum and the Fensala Hall in Central Alberta. He also traveled to work on projects in remote areas such as Baffin Island, Nunavut and Watson Lake, Yukon, as well as many places throughout the interior and coastline of British Columbia.
Bruno was an avid outdoor enthusiast, and would spend his spare time cross country skiing, downhill skiing, alpine sledding, mountain biking and camping throughout the Rocky Mountains. He was a great hockey player and a proud Oilers fan. Bruno thoroughly enjoyed listening to and attending live music; and would often attend the North Country Fair and several other folk festivals in his life. He later purchased land in Alder Flats, Alberta where he built his own home from foundation to finishing.
Bruno is lovingly remembered by his family: daughter Ellen, his brothers Leon and Noel, and sisters Lorraine, Viviane, Giselle, Isabelle, Carmen and Claire, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and grand-dog, Toque. He is predeceased by his mother Irene, father Raymond, sister Cecile and son Lucas.
A Celebration of Bruno’s Life will be held at the Pioneers Cabin, 9430 Scona Road NW, Edmonton, Alberta on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund at www.downiewenjack.ca, the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, or to CKUA Radio Network.
