It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our amazing wife and mother, Janice Louise ‘Jan’ Calliou on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the age of 68 years. She was surrounded by those she loved, her husband and children, who strongly loved her back.
Jan was born in Red Deer, Alberta in August of 1954 and was raised on a farm in Red Deer County. She met the love of her life in her teenage years, and they married in 1971. They lived mainly in Central Alberta working on Dairy farms, and eventually, they settled in the Red Deer County area. Over the years, Jan had odd jobs, but her passion was woodworking. She was able to accomplish this dream when they moved to the Markerville area and started her side business, ‘Sawbuddies’, on a small acreage. Her husband, Jim, started his own tire business, and Jan became the company’s secretary, helping take care and run the business up until her passing.
Jan loved being at the acreage, better known as ‘Shady Lane Acres’. Together, they built the home they had always dreamed of for their family, creating so many loved and precious memories. In 2016, they were awarded the Rural Beautification Program through Red Deer County for the ‘Small Acreage’ category.
Jan will be lovingly remembered by her High School sweetheart and husband, with whom she celebrated fifty years of marriage, Walter ‘Jim’ Calliou, her children, Melina (Garry) Robinson, Penny (Tom) Crozman, Reuben (Angie) Calliou and Rickie (Crystal) Calliou, her sixteen treasured grandchildren and one great grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Duane, her parents, Reuben and Helen and her adored grandson, Mackenzie. A Memorial Service will be held at the King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1911 – 2 Avenue, Dickson, Alberta on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. Following the Memorial Service, there will be a reception at the Spruce View Community Hall, 2127, AB-54, Spruce View, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in memory of Jan may be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, Unit 32, 3942 – 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta or at www.rdrhfoundation.com.
