1953 ~ Susan ‘Sue’ Irene Bolton (nee Gillis) ~ 2025 "Thank you doesn’t seem adequate for her family doctor, Dr. Kathy Unger and Dr. Matt Unger as well as her Edmonton oncologist, Dr. Rauw. Sue was able to stay in her home with the help of her supportive family and the Lacombe Health Care Staff and for that, we are so very grateful. Also, a huge thank you to Red Deer Hospice for their kindness and care for Sue during her final journey."

BOLTON, Susan Irene
1953 –2025
It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that we bid a sad farewell to our beloved sister Susan ‘Sue’ Irene Bolton (nee Gillis), who passed away at the Red Deer Hospice in Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the age of 72 years. Born to parents John and May (nee Murray) Gillis in Kearns, Ontario, on Friday, September 5, 1953, Sue bravely fought her battle with cancer courageously with strength and determination and she carried on for as long as she possibly could. Her early years were spent in Kearns, Ontario, and in her later years, she moved to Toronto after graduating from Business College in North Bay and furthered her studies achieving a bachelor’s degree in business from York University. She spent her working years living in Brampton, Ontario, then Barrie, Ontario. After a rewarding career with Air Canada, she retired and moved to Lacombe, Alberta, to be closer to family out west. During her retirement, she spent her winters in Florida with her sister, Marion enjoying the warm sunny breezes and avoiding the Alberta bone-chilling cold. Sue was a happy, friendly person who developed many long-lasting close friends wherever life took her. While in Florida, she enjoyed golfing, early morning and evening walks with friends, and of course Happy Hours, often held in driveways. She volunteered her time to help the Park with their library and golf tournaments as she was a born detailed organizer and did such a great job. She was an avid reader belonging to several libraries and loved to travel. Travel was in her blood, and she enjoyed many road trips, cruise ship voyages as well as trips to warm climates with sandy beaches and beautiful scenery, not to mention road trips through the Rocky Mountains. A lot of her trips were shared with family who also enjoyed traveling and company as much as she did. She lived a healthy life, getting in her daily walking steps, playing golf and eating proper meals every day, except for Friday nights when she would enjoy a good Scotch and a bowl of freshly made popcorn dripping with butter and salt or a Happy Hour with friends. Susan was predeceased by her husband, Terry Bolton; her sister, Marion Larose; and her parents, John and May (nee Murray) Gillis. She is survived by her siblings, Linda Prockiw (Robert), Janet Blais (Rejean), Joanne Boruck and John Gillis (Dianna). She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and by her friends at home. She will also be missed by her Florida friends who will miss her visits, golf games and Happy Hour times. Sue, we miss you so much and know you are free now, until we meet again. Thank you doesn’t seem adequate for her family doctor, Dr. Kathy Unger and Dr. Matt Unger as well as her Edmonton oncologist, Dr. Rauw. Sue was able to stay in her home with the help of her supportive family and the Lacombe Health Care Staff and for that, we are so very grateful. Also, a huge thank you to Red Deer Hospice for their kindness and care for Sue during her final journey. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
