BARABANOFF, Neil
1953 – 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Neil Barabanoff, in Ponoka, Alberta, on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the age of 72 years. Born on January 17, 1953, in Pelly, Saskatchewan. Neil cherished his childhood years spent at the Olson farm near Preeceville, where he formed lasting memories with his grandparents, uncle and aunt, and cousins. His love for the outdoors was a defining part of his life. Whether it was fishing, hunting, or camping, Neil found joy in spending time in nature with his family.
Neil’s work ethic was second to none. He held various jobs throughout his life, including working in a Potash Mine near Saskatoon, long-haul trucking, operating a grain elevator in Hussar, Alberta, and working in the gold mines near Yellowknife. Neil also ran a small business in St. Paul, Alberta, and was a true jack-of-all-trades. Neil is survived by his children from his first marriage to Martine Roberge, April, and Jason (Honi); and from his second marriage to Charlene Pierlot: Jennifer (Erik) and Danielle (Chris). He was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Dean (Sevilla) and his sister, Holly (Clary). Neil was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Leona. Although Neil wasn’t one to express his emotions openly, his love for his family ran deep. He had a special place in his heart for his mother, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
