Janice Marilyn Bonnie Miller of Innisfail, Alberta passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on August 11, 2023 at the age of 70 years. Janice was born on February 9, 1953 in Toronto, Ontario to James and Mary Kurulok (nee Slywka). Janice, the first of four children, was raised in Oakville, Ontario until early high school, then in Yorkton Saskatchewan when the family returned to Saskatchewan roots in 1967. She completed high school at Sacred Heart Academy, followed by studies in Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, and work in Edmonton Alberta. Janice married Peter Groenland 1974, and later Ken Miller 1983, and raised a family of two sons, Patrick Miller and Dusty Miller. The family had opportunity to live across the country, including the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia and in the Maritimes, later returning to Alberta, and settling in Innisfail. Janice truly enjoyed the beauty and character of each locale, from West Coast to East Coast, ocean shores and mountains. Caring and outgoing, Janice had an easy ability to befriend, great to listen and to share, in heart-to-heart talks, consolation and laughter. Janice had a strong faith, in all its expression, joyful and persevering, served her well and benefitted others. She was active in Church life and committed to bible study, Cursillo live-in retreats, and Divine Mercy cenacle. Janice had a creative skill, she found expression in sewing crafts, and rock paintings of animals, and sketching. Janice was also an avid reader. Janice was predeceased by brother, Marvin ‘Jerry’ in 1975, her father, James in 1998, and her mother, Mary in 2018. She is survived by her sons, Patrick Miller, of Vancouver and Dusty Miller of Edmonton, her friend and partner Bernie Haley of Innisfail, her sister, Judith Kurulok of Saskatoon, her brother, Tim (Robyn) Kurulok, and her nephews Dylan and Nolan, of Calgary. Funeral Prayers will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Innisfail, Alberta on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.; Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, Memorial Donations may be made in Janice’s honor to ALS Society of Alberta.
