With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Andrew “Andy” John Pahl on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Andy was born September 8, 1953, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He grew up in Vancouver and Red Deer, enjoying a variety of sports, especially hockey and football — a lifelong fan of the Oilers and the BC Lions. Andy and Jan were married in Red Deer in April of 1981. Family time together included road trips to the mountain parks, especially Jasper and Radium, and excursions to BC and Vancouver Island.

Andy loved playing on his work slow pitch teams and took up golfing as a fun pastime. He supported his children in their softball and soccer endeavors and even coached their teams on occasion. Music was a passion and he could be heard tapping away on his electric drum set. In summer Andy kept busy with gardening and yard projects and winter was the time for a colourful Christmas light display. In retirement, Andy and Jan enjoyed golfing at a variety of courses in Central Alberta and beyond, and bike riding the wonderful trails in Red Deer’s Waskasoo Park Trail System.

Andy worked a variety of interesting jobs until he found his true calling as a Sheet Metal Mechanic — or “tin basher.” He took great pride in his work installing furnaces and chimneys in new houses and drawing up duct plans to heat even the most difficult layouts.

Andy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Jan; daughter, Colleen; sons, Eric and Scott; and grand dog, Fergus. Andy was predeceased by his parents, John and Esther. The family would like to thank the Red Deer Home and Palliative Care Teams for their compassion and support, which allowed Andy to remain at home until his passing, as he had wished. As per Andy’s request, there will be no formal funeral service.
