Richard Edward Bignell of Youngstown, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his home in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 73 years. Richard was born on Wednesday, September 24, 1952, in Hanna, Alberta, to Edward and Joanne (nee Cousinau) Bignell. Richard spent many of his early years in Youngstown, Alberta, alongside his sister, Melody (Clifford); and brothers Bruce (Donna) and Perry (Jody), before setting out to build a life of his own. Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife Katherine ‘Kathy’ (nee O-Keefe) Bignell of 38 years; his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kelly and his wife Amy, and their sons Nanton and William; Darcy and his wife Stephanie, and their sons Jaxon, Maddex, and Xaiden; Tina and her husband Casey, their children Mackayla (Steve) and their children, Kinley, Olivia, Alyssa, Serena, Aubry, Breanna, and Scarlett; Natasha and her husband Mike, and their child Kai; and Thera and her husband Garett, and their children Avery, Sophie, and Davis. A Celebration of Life was held in Richard’s honour at Valley Centre Hall, 38062 Range Rd 260, Red Deer County, Alberta on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Reception that followed. Richard will be laid to rest at the Youngstown Cemetery in Youngstown, Alberta, at a later date. Richard’s absence will be felt deeply; however, his dedication to his family, his unwavering reliability, and his love for his family and friends will remain as his lasting legacy.
