Mr. Leonard ‘Lenn’ Arthur Opseth, a man whose life was full of hard work, humour, and deep connections, bid farewell to this world, surrounded by his loving family and his faithful feline companion, Sugar, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the age of 72 years. Born on December 13, 1951, in Provost, Alberta, Lenn was the second child of Arthur and Evelyn Opseth, growing up on a farm north of Bodo, Alberta. Education led him from the rural landscape of Bodo to the halls of the Provost Public School, where he graduated in 1970. It was in that same year that he embarked on the journey of marriage with his beloved Darlene, and they welcomed their first son, Mark, into the world. The years that followed brought more joy with the arrival of Rod and Barbara, completing their family. Working on the family farm shaped Lenn’s early years, instilling in him his work ethic and the importance of family. Working alongside his dad and Uncle Carl, he enjoyed taking on the responsibilities of the farm, raising his growing family. After selling the family farm, they moved to Hayter, where they built a home and created lasting memories for eight years. Lenn’s career path was as diverse as his interests. From farming, to working for Drew McDonald at Imperial Oil, to finally finding his stride hauling crude oil, he approached each endeavour with dedication and determination. However, it was his time at Medicine Valley Transport that truly captured his heart. He formed close bonds with the Eliuk family, relishing the camaraderie of the shop and the pride of driving the trucks entrusted to him. Beyond his professional life, Lenn was a man of laughter and friendship. Whether spinning tales at the shop or sharing jokes with friends like Marla and Kendell, he had a knack for brightening any room he entered. His warmth and quick wit made him a beloved figure in every circle he touched. Lenn continued to exemplify strength and resilience in the face of illness. He remained surrounded by the love of his family, and the unwavering love and support of his cherished wife, Darlene. As we bid farewell to Lenn Opseth, we carry with us the memories of his laughter, his kindness, and the permanent mark he left on all who knew him. Though he may have departed from this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him friend, husband, father, and brother. Rest peacefully, Lenn, knowing that your legacy of love and laughter will endure for generations to come. Lenn will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene Opseth, his two sons, Mark (Audra Shakotko) Opseth of Red Deer, Alberta, and Rod (Teri-Lynn) Opseth of Red Deer, Alberta, and his daughter, Barbara (Adam) Hawkings of Red Deer, Alberta, his ten grandchildren and his seven great grandchildren. Lenn will also be sadly missed by his two brothers, Bruce Opseth and Grant Opseth, both of Edmonton, Alberta, and his three sisters, Judy (Wayne) Tattersall of Wainwright, Alberta, Patti (Harvey) Heck of Pigeon Lake, Alberta and Marilyn Sutherland of Edmonton, Alberta. Lenn was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Opseth. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Paul Kavanagh Celebrant. A Private Interment was held at Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer County, Alberta.
