Mr. Edward Stephen of Red Deer, Alberta, went to be with The Lord and into the loving arms of his predeceased wife, Colleen Flett, on January 9, 2022, at the age of 70 years. Edward or “Eddie” was born June 2, 1951 in Regina, Saskatchewan to his Mother Rena Mildred Flett and his Father George William Flett. Eddie graduated from the School of Hard Knocks and Scott Collegiate High School in Regina and went on to receive an English degree from the University of Regina. Growing up Eddie loved sports and was a fierce competitor at hockey, football, lacrosse, and wrestling. Eddie spent his teen summers working on the family farm in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan with his Uncle Peter, and Aunt Jean. Eddie cherished his time on the farm and these memories were a comfort to him late in life. Eddie grew up with a cast of characters and fierce friends. “Fast Eddie” never had a hard time having a good time. Eddie’s life forever changed when he met his sweetheart Colleen via his sister Jean. Ed and Colleen were wed July 5, 1975, in Regina. Son Luke arrived in 1979 followed by son Geordin in 1980. Ed worked for Canada Agriculture before venturing out as a construction contractor with his friend and business partner Will Leach. Ed continued and excelled as a skilled contractor for the rest of his career. Ed fell in love with Central Alberta after visiting dear friends in the area, so Ed and family moved west to Red Deer, Alberta in 1991. Ed and family quickly assimilated in the Red Deer community, and it became home. Ed was an avid bridge player and made many lifelong friends at the Red Deer Bridge Club. Ed was very proud of achieving his American Contract Bridge League rank of “Life Master”. Ed loved watching his boys compete in various sports but especially lacrosse, where Ed was a coach, club President, and builder of the sport of lacrosse in Red Deer. Ed was a loving and doting husband and father who would do anything for his family. Eddie had a soft spot for those less fortunate and many received his help or charity without recognition. Eddie will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and many friends. Ed leaves to mourn his loss, his sons, Luke (Candace) and Geordin (Jamie), grandsons Kayden, Garrett, and Tyler, and granddaughters Bella and Rachel. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Heather (Ed) of Red Deer Alberta, Jean, Rena, and Darien all of Regina, Saskatchewan, brother Garth of Regina Saskatchewan, brothers-in-law Bob Brennan (Jane Welsh) and Bill Brennan (Julie Hughes) of Regina, Saskatchewan, sisters-in-law, Maureen Greene of White Rock, British Columbia and Sheila Beckie of Denver, Colorado, as well as his Aunt Jean Flett, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
