With great sadness and love we honour the passing of Lynne Patricia Paul, beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend. She left us quietly on August 4, 2022 at the Red Deer Hospice, two months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Lynne was born 1951 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan first child of Leonard Knuttila and Inez Dalshaug. She was raised a devout Lutheran, and big sister to three siblings: Sandra, Kim and Brent. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class, to the great pride of her family. In her graduating year Lynne met her future husband Maurice, recently stationed at CFB Moose Jaw. Their relationship flourished and they were married two years later in December of 1970. That began a great lifetime adventure as Maurice continued in the armed forces. Jennifer was born during their posting to Germany, and Eva was born in Wainwright, Alberta. Other postings included Thunder Bay, Cold Lake, and Winnipeg, and finally Sherwood Park when Maurice retired in 1996. They settled a few years later at Gull Lake, Alberta.  Lynne was passionate about learning and about teaching. She earned bachelor’s degrees in both Math and Science, and later, certificates in Adult Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. While most of her career was spent in Compensation and Benefits for the federal government, it was after Maurice’s retirement she pursued a job she truly loved: teaching. She worked from 2003 to 2017 as a Learning Advisor at CFB Edmonton, researching, creating, and teaching courses on all manner of topics. As a life-long learner, this brought her great satisfaction. After retirement from the public service, she continued this work on a volunteer basis in her community, first teaching English as a second language (like her father before her), and in 2017 joined the Board for the Ponoka and Rimbey Adult Learning Society, and Campus Alberta Central. She served as Chairperson of the PRALS board from 2019 until her diagnosis in June of this year.  Throughout her life, she maintained a strong relationship with her family, and active participation in the church and in her community. Her mentorship, friendship, wisdom, and wit will be greatly missed by all who have known her. Her love will stay with us forever.  A Celebration of Life is planned for this remarkable woman at St. Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church, 4241 – 44 Street, Red Deer on August 27, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
