The family of Annie Vera Nowlin has announced her sudden passing on the morning of November 5, 2025, at the age of 73 years, in Didsbury, Alberta.
Annie Vera was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, on November 14, 1951, to parents Abraham and Lena Friesen, and grew up with her eight siblings in Love, Saskatchewan. She married Lyle Nowlin in 1971, and together they raised two children, Nancy and Jerry, on a farm in the Torch River district.
Known to everyone as Vera, she was a dedicated member of the Torch River Ladies Club, where she served for many years and formed countless cherished friendships. Vera had a passion for art, especially painting, and created many beautiful watercolor and acrylic pieces for family, friends, and local businesses. Among her most notable works are the welcome sign at the entrance to the Town of Love and the design for the Canada Post stamp of the Love Post Office. She especially enjoyed spending time with loved ones over a good cup of coffee. Vera moved to Stettler, Alberta, in 2004, and recently relocated to Didsbury to be closer to her family. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Nancy (Collin) Georget, grandson Paul, granddaughter Jeri-Anne, sister Helen Ordos of Edmonton, Alberta, brother William (Ruth) Friesen of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her son Jerry, parents Abraham and Lena Friesen, brothers Jake, John, Henry, and Donnie, and sisters Lillian and Marie.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the community of Torch River, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
