MEIER, Ruth
1949 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Ruth Elizabeth Lee Meier left us to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the age of 75 years. Ruth passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre after having suffered a second stroke. She was surrounded by family, love and the presence of God. Ruth was born on July 25, 1949, in Red Deer, Alberta to loving parents, Selmer and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Lee. Ruth was the first-born child of a family of eight children. Ruth’s life was spent growing up on the farm in Lousana, with her parents and siblings. She attended school in Lousana, Three Hills, Delburne, and Red Deer. After High School, Ruth moved to Calgary to pursue an education in Nursing. Here she would have her first-born, Calvin ‘Dean’. In 1971, she married Steve Meier and the couple had two more children, Curtis and Shane. They would live first in Three Hills, then Peace River and finally settled in Terrace, British Columbia. After her children finished school, Ruth ventured out on her own and moved to Red Deer, and later, Lacombe. During her life, Ruth worked as a nurse at the Grimshaw/Berwyn Hospital and then in the Equipment and Instrument Sterilization area of the Red Deer Hospital. At work, Ruth made many new friends that she would speak fondly of later in life. Ruth was a beautiful Christian woman who loved spending time with all her family and friends. She had a full and busy life with her work and raising her three boys. She enjoyed many hobbies such as ceramics, baking and selling Mary Kay. Much of Ruth’s spare time was spent travelling around with sister, Donna, visiting family. Her passing has left a void in everyone’s heart. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Dean (Arlene) Meier of Edmonton, Curtis Meier of Lacombe, and Shane (Sandra) Meier of Red Deer County; her loving grandchildren, Kelsey (Marcus), Meghan (Brandon), Jenna (Dayton), Shawnie, Mackenzie, Savannah, Juliette, Aiden, Lance and Warren; and her three great grandchildren, Hayden, Cameron, and Colter. She will also be sadly missed by her siblings, Donna Lee of Red Deer, her sister-in-law, Kim Lee of Hope, British Columbia, Phil (Marcia) Lee of Red Deer County, Gary (Wendy) Lee of Bassano, Vern (Kim) Lee of Red Deer, Joanne Lee of Red Deer, Heather (Wes) Fukuda of Vulcan, and her many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her father, Selmer, her mother, Betty, her brother, Dave and her grandson, Mitch. A Funeral Service will be held at the Lousana Hall, Lousana, Alberta on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Lousana Cemetery, Lousana, Alberta.
