Penny Gwillim completed her journey on this earth peacefully, at the Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer, Alberta, on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the age of 73 years. Penny grew up on the family farm near, Duval, Saskatchewan and graduated from High School at Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. She went on to attend the University of Regina, where she obtained a Teaching Certificate and later her Degree. Penny taught in eight different locations starting in 1969, and retired in 2006, from Leslieville, Alberta. Her love of teaching was a benefit to many students during those years. Her son, Joel, was the light of her life; she was a very proud and devoted Mom, through all his activities growing up, and accomplishments as an adult. Penny and Laurie travelled Western Canada in the motorhome, with their dogs in tow. Penny made frequent trips to Texas, United States, with her siblings; and was able to take some trips with Joel, more recently, the highlight being Maui, Hawaii in 2019. She will be remembered for many things; her sense of humor, being an avid Roughrider fan, a curling enthusiast and keeping close tabs on the Blue Jays and Flames. She was a talented musician and loving mom, partner, sister, aunt, and friend. She will remain in our hearts forever. Penny will be deeply missed by her son, Joel Gwillim (Michele), who was her pride and joy, her partner, Laurie Martin, her brother, Gordon (Peggy), her sister, Glenda Gwillim, her sister-in-law, Barb Gwillim, her numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and her extended Martin family; as well as many cousins and good friends. Penny was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Gerry Gwillim and a brother, Barrie Gwillim.
