THOMPSON, Robert
1949 – 2025
Mr. Robert Roy Thompson passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the age of 75 years. Robert was born on June 30, 1949, in Ontario. Robert was the eldest of six children born to Roy and Ruth Thompson. With a love for the outdoors, he was athletic and strong, helping on farms in the summer and fishing in the surrounding lakes and streams. He met and married Ruth and later moved the family to Semans, Saskatchewan, where they would live for the next nine years. Robert obtained his Journeyman Mechanics for both gas and diesel engines. He managed the P and H Grain Elevator and later worked away from home in the Oilpatch, sending home pay cheques and trout caught from nearby streams, and frozen in one gallon ice cream buckets. In 1980, the family relocated to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta to be closer to Robert. Foothills Tank Rental was his longest and last employer. As empty nesters and nearing the end of his working career, Robert and Ruth decided to move from Rocky to Bashaw where they lived and retired at Buffalo Lake. They later moved into a house in town backing onto the nature trails, where moose were often seen in the backyard. Robert’s time was consumed with his favorite activities of fishing, gardening, playing with the dogs and puttering in the garage. He enjoyed finding diamond willow and whittling walking sticks in his spare time. Robert held the position of elder in the Bashaw Community Church, until moving to Red Deer to be closer to family and health facilities. Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth; his daughters, Raelene (Eric) Murray, Lorri (Mike) Wood, and Tracey (Kevin) Carson; his grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Holly, Katelynn, and Logan; and his great granddaughter, Mckenzie. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Susan (Dan) Phillips, and Kim Nicholson, and his brother, Stewart (Evelyn). Robert was predeceased by his mother and father, and his brothers, Terry and Richard. Robert’s life and legacy will be remembered by family and friends during a Celebration of Life in the summer of 2025. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
