Mr. Merton ‘Lyle’ Craig passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the age of 72 years.
Lyle was born on Monday, July 25, 1949, in Red Deer, Alberta. He was raised on a farm southeast of Delburne in a family of nine. Lyle met Ev during their school years. They dated for about one year before they were married on Sunday, July 2, 1972. They bought a farm northwest of Lousana, and that is where they farmed and raised their family. Joanne was born in October of 1976 and Jason was born in May 1981. Lyle worked on the rigs as a young man and then worked for Lousana Water Wells. They also farmed with Stuart and Edna Knights for many years and eventually continued the farm operation on their own. In 2001, Jason took over the farm and Lyle bought a waste disposal company called 3R Management. He loved his job, but he loved the people he met along the way even more. You could tell how much his clients appreciated the visits by the stacks of his favorite chocolates that would be piling up in their house at Christmas time. Lyle sold that business in 2015 but continued to work until the spring of 2021. In August of last year, Lyle was diagnosed with ALS. He was the fifth Craig man to face this terrible diagnosis and live with this awful disease.
Lyle had a love for many things including chocolate, Toronto Blue Jays, Montreal Canadiens, Curling, Puzzles, Old trucks, Classic Country/Bluegrass music. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren play hockey and ball, and he enjoyed every moment that he got to spend drinking a cold Pilsner and enjoying happy hour on the deck with Ev.
Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Evelyn Craig, his daughter, Joanne (Greg), his son, Jason (Jenn), and his grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, Jayden, and Jemma. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Lorna, and his brothers, Mel, Alvin, and Harvey. Lyle was predeceased by his father, Russel, his mother, Margaret, his brothers, Ron, Lloyd and Larry, and a nephew, Brad.
