Melody was born in Missoula, Montana to her parents Ray and Peggy Cavin. Melody was the youngest out of five children. As a child, she loved camping in the Montana mountains with her family and would spend countless hours fishing with her father, sister, and brother. Melody moved to Canada with her sister, Sharon and brother-in-law Gary, to Derwent, AB on April 1st, 1977. In 1989, Melody started working at Olds College where she worked until retirement in November of 2015. She loved the people she worked with and made close friends within the walls of Olds College. Her children were her life. She worked incredibly hard to provide them with opportunities to learn and grow despite having limited resources. Regardless of her busy schedule she volunteered countless hours with organizations like the Olds College Alumni Association, The Royal Canadian Legion and The Olds Air Cadets. Melody was a warrior. She was a 3-time survivor of cancer and fought diabetes from her early 30’s. Sadly, she passed away in her home on Monday November 15, 2021. She is survived by her sisters Sharon Algot (Gary), Sister Penny Hines (Larry), twin brother Terry Cavin, daughter Daralee Durand and sons John Cavin and Ray Cavin (Joy). She loved her grandchildren Montana, Dakota, Levi, Liam and Matthew more than anything in the world. She was predeceased by her parents Ray and Peggy, and her brother Kent.
