It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert ‘Bob’ James Diewold, of Red Deer, Alberta at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the age of 77 years. Bob was born on February 27, 1949 in Montreal, Quebec.
Bob was the cherished and dearly loved brother of Patricia Diewold, Myrna Dube-Thompson, and Brenda Houston (predeceased).
Our family was deeply proud of Bob’s achievements as an anesthesiologist with a thirty year career at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, as a sport enthusiast, a musician, and as an innovative, creator of numerous successful endeavours. Bob was a man of integrity, a man with a keen interest and expressed admiration in the lives of other family members and every friend he had, and a man who cared greatly for persons with disabilities.
A loving husband to Lynn (predeceased); a ten year partner to Claudette; and a wonderful father to Matt, making sure all his needs are cared for.
Bob was an intelligent, kind, caring man with a great sense of humour; his little chuckle will never be forgotten. He lived a full and purposeful life, He leaves behind a family that loved him, a multitude of great friends who will miss him, and a community of neighbours that will miss him stopping and taking the time to catch up on everyday life.
Bob, will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Etana – (ALL the staff there who care for Matt SO AMAZINGLY) are deeply grateful for the longterm relationship they have shared with the Diewold’s and for the trust Bob placed in them as they care
and support Matt in living his best life.
Over the years, the caring staff, had the privilege of witnessing the special bond between Bob and his son, Matt. Bob passed along his love of animals, nature, and music-passions they shared and enjoyed together.
Some of the fondest memories are of their Sundays, spent going for country drives, music playing in the background, simply enjoying each other’s company while having a pop or milkshake. Those moments reflected the quiet, meaningful connection they shared.
We feel honoured to have been part of their journey together and grateful for the opportunity to know Bob and witness the deep love he had for Matt. Bob’s presence and the things he loved and shared with Matt, will continue to live on through him.
As per Bob’s request, no formal service will be held. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bob’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com or to Etana at www.etana.ca.
Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
