1948 ~ Mr. Douglas ‘Doug’ Charles Hilts ~ 2024 "In his later years, Doug developed a great passion for golf and could be found gracing golf courses all over Central Alberta. When he wasn’t on the course, he could be found working on his short game in the back yard or putting in the living room."

Mr. Douglas ‘Doug’ Charles Hilts passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the age of 76 years. Doug was born on August 9, 1948, at Hamilton, Ontario to Lloyd and Shirley Hilts. Doug started out pursuing a Painting and Decorating Trade early on in life. He eventually joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1967, where he served loyally for twenty-six years. Military life moved Doug and his family across Canada with stops in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Petawawa and in 1987, finally settling in Red Deer. After his Military career, Doug went on to serve fifteen years with Corrections Canada at the Bowden Institution, totaling forty-one years of service with the Canadian Federal Government. Doug was a “do-it-yourself” kind of guy. He always had some type of job on the go, whether it be repairs or projects around the house, no task was too big or small. He had wit and humor like no other; he was the comic relief in any situation and always made those around him laugh, whether during a friendly game of cards, board games or playing sports. In his later years, Doug developed a great passion for golf and could be found gracing golf courses all over Central Alberta. When he wasn’t on the course, he could be found working on his short game in the back yard or putting in the living room. Doug will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Cheryl; his sons, Alexander (Jesse), and Jason (Raye Anne); his grandchildren, Joshua and Cora; and his two brothers, Ray and Donald Hilts, as well as many other family members and friends.
