Larry Donald Hawkins left his cancerous body behind and stepped into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 6, 1948 in the middle of a snowstorm, in Brooks, Alberta, the first child of Paddy and Helen Hawkins. His dad ran grader as a road builder, so they moved often, adding 5 other children to the family along the way. They were living near Olds for a time, and that’s where Larry met Elaine White, who would become his wife, and mother to their two sons. He was an electrician most of his working life, taking his journeyman training through M-R Electric, under his father-in-law, Maurice White, and partner, Ray Pernitski. He loved working on the tools, never wanting to become a paper pusher, so moved often to follow the commercial and oilfield construction jobs. His hobby was dancing with his lovely bride. They postponed their wedding a week as the band they wanted (Roy Fisher and the Stringbusters), was busy the weekend before. Larry and Elaine went to every dance possible, country dances, square and round dances, old time dances, and open wedding dances, and danced every dance from the moment they entered the hall, until the band quit. Larry will be remembered with love by Elaine, his wife of 54 years; his sons, Peter, of Saskatoon, and Dave, and his wife Tracy and his three grandchildren, Jack, Alex, and Lauren, all of Edmonton. His siblings, Linda (John) Grigat; Richard Hawkins; Nadine (Allan Hofseth) Hawkins; Clifford (Coleen) Hawkins; and Kathy Alton. Two brothers-in-law, Ric (Noni Tedesco) White and Ken White, and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also, by his long-time friends, Fay Hagerty, and Henry and Murielle Hoffman. He was predeceased by his still-born brother James, and his parents, Paddy and Helen Hawkins. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Olds and District Evergreen Seniors Hall, 5237 52 Street, Olds, Alberta at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre, 709 1 Street NE, Sundre, Alberta, T0M 1X0
