1948 ~ Gerald (Gerry) Douglas Hawkes ~ 2021 "Gerry was an Alberta-wild horse that could not be fenced in by church nor state".
Posted Mar 24, 2021 | 2:58 PM
Gerry was born in Calgary Alberta on December 23, 1948 and passed away peacefully on March 9, 2021.
He is the first of five boys and survived by brothers David, John, Robert, and Peter. He is also held in the hearts of Glenys, and their children Kori, Adam, Morgan, and Ashley, along with their beautiful families. His parents Doug and Dorothy Hawkes, are welcoming him home.
Gerry was an Alberta-wild horse that could not be fenced in by church nor state. He was dearly loved for his tender heart and his ever-challenging fervor for life. He was known for his brilliant creative mind, his open door, and a laugh that filled the room. He lived many adventures on mountain peaks, cool lakes, oil fields and dusty corrals. Freedom was his greatest cause, for one and for all.
In lieu of a service, we are having a closed gathering for friends and family at a later date.
In memory of Gerry, please plant a tree for his love of the outdoors. We also ask that you seek those nearby who need advocacy from a feisty friend. Drop the reins and enjoy the ride.
Our deepest gratitude to Bethany Care in Didsbury whose patience and compassion are immeasurable.
Cowboy Prayer
May your tummy never grumble,
May your heart never ache,
May your horse never stumble,
May your cinch never break.
