It is with the deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our loving mother, Elaine Bird, with her loving daughter, Leda by her side, on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the age of 73 years.
Elaine was born on November 13, 1948 in Didsbury, Alberta, to George and Olive Admussen. She was the oldest of three children, a sister to brothers, Allen and Fredrick. She lived in Central Alberta and then moved to Penticton, BC, as a teenager. From there, back to Alberta where she raised three girls with her former husband, Brian. Starting life solo in her forties, she defied many skeptics in going to the University of Alberta to get her Degree. Not only did she surpass her goal of obtaining her Bachelor of Science, she also earned her Bachelor of Education Degree. Once her daughters were grown, she welcomed four grandsons over almost three decades. Elaine loved her daughters but took immense pride and happiness in her grandsons. Her oldest grandson lives in Red Deer; and she visited her younger grandsons every summer, and as many holidays as possible. Elaine enjoyed baking and trying many new dishes much to the delight of everyone’s palate. She also enjoyed puzzles of all varieties – most recently sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. If there was a Stationery Store nearby, she was interested – school supply shopping was a passion she enjoyed with, and for, her grandchildren. When she wasn’t with her grandchildren, she was doing another thing she loved – teaching. She taught at numerous schools, all over the province and most recently at First Step Adult Education Centre. She spoke with immense pride of her students and faculty. She was an amazing teacher and helped many students gain their full academic potential. She was a firm believer in education and helping everyone learn. She was exceptionally adept at working with students on their individual level to learn; she was always patient, always kind. Elaine had many friends and shared all she had with everyone she loved. Elaine is survived by her children and grandchildren, her daughter, Leda (Ray) and son, Graham, her daughter, Linda (Kirk) and their sons, Luke and Kai, her daughter, Barbara (Ben) and their son, Aldo, and her brother, Fredrick (Maxine), as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Allen and her parents, George and Olive. An accomplished and giving life, may she rest easy knowing she was loved and cherished by her family and friends. Elaine will be immensely missed by her grandsons, daughters and all who knew her and loved her.
