Tony Patrick Mayne (aka Mr. Wonderful) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away January 17,
2023 at the age of 75. His last morning was spent enjoying a rather large pancake for
breakfast with Marlene, his wife of 42 years, before heading out to care for the animals
on the beautiful farm they built together which he enjoyed so much.
Tony was born on Nov 5, 1947 to Graham and Patricia Mayne in Peterborough,
England. He lived there until 1950 when he immigrated with his parents, and younger
sister Virginia, to Red Deer. After graduating from Lindsay Thurber High School in 1965
he began working with his father Graham at Mayne & Mayne House of Decorating
beginning his lifelong career in construction. He carried the Mayne & Mayne name
through the years working in construction and renovations across Central Alberta, often
accompanied by his children.
When he wasn’t building or renovating houses, Tony loved being on the land with his
family, teaching the kids about life on the farm. He loved the animals, especially horses.
In the early years he raised Appaloosas on his farm, Moss Canyon Ranching. Later,
Tony spent many summers announcing horse shows around Alberta and British
Columbia on the Quarter Horse, Arabian, Morgan and Saddlebred show circuits. After
some time spent living in Red Deer, he returned to the farm where he built a home for
his family with his own hands and the help of his family and friends. Over the years it
turned into a petting zoo of sorts as Tony could never say no when one of the kids
wanted a new pet, especially when they’re a hanky wearing baby goat named Booger.
He spent decades building a giant playground for his children who he was so proud of
and loved so much.
Tony is missed dearly by his wife Marlene, his eldest children Robin (Andrea) and Cody
(Diarmuid, grandchildren Emma and Finn), their mother Joan White Calf, his younger
children Jessy (Candice, grandson Huxley), Jacqueline, Billi (Newell), and Colton
(Madison), his siblings Virginia (Adrian, Julia), Jeremy (Lise, Jessica), Julian (Laurel,
Nicholas, Sally), and Pamela (Dinis, Kate, Alex, Larissa). He is predeceased by his
father Graham, mother Patricia, and his brother-in-law Martyn Walton (husband of
Virginia).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sweet Haven Barn (343022, Range Road 24 #5,
Huxley, Alberta) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Join us in honouring Tony – the

send him off with a Bang! Hint – you can’t celebrate Tony without some fireworks!
