Mrs. Marie Chiasson (née van der Meer) passed away at the Red Deer Hospital on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 78 years. Marie was born in Holland on November 7, 1947, one of eighteen children, and emigrated to Canada in 1952. She spent many years working for the Red Deer Advocate, delivering newspapers for distribution and taking pride in her role within the community. Marie passed away surrounded by the people she loved and loved her deeply, a reflection of the care and connection that defined her life.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, Robert; daughters, Patsy (Dan), Suzanne, and Teresa (Rick); brother, Sid; sisters, Marion, Hillie, Frances, and Margaret; grandchildren, Brian, Danielle, Jenn, Kelsi, Jarrod, Justine, and Josh; and great grandchildren, Payton, Mercedes, Seth, Thomas, Kane, Zeke, Madison, Holden, Isabelle, Nathan, Jacob, Aiden, Hazel Marie, and Zoe Marie. Marie rejoins her son, Jeffrey.
A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held at a later date, during the Spring of 2026. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of Marie may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
