Mrs. Margaret ‘Leanne’ Matheson passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 77 years.
Leanne was born in Taber, Alberta on March 28, 1947 to Irene and Francis Peterson. She had seven bothers and sisters and countless family members. Leanne relocated to Calgary, Alberta, where she eventually met and married the love of her life, David Matheson, on February 19, 1966.
As a military wife, she moved many times and experienced life all over Canada. During her working career, she held many jobs and titles; but none of these were more important to her than being a wife, mother and homemaker. She also had great care and compassion for animals and was always surrounded by a wide variety of pets. At any one time you could see birds, hamsters, turtles, fish, mice, dogs, cats, squirrels, groundhogs and even a three-legged frog!
Leanne will be remembered by her loving husband, David; her three children, Samantha (David), Joanna (Doug) and Richard; her four grandchildren, Rebecca, Steven, Travis and Tyler; and a very large extended family who are too numerous to mention by name. Although she had a short stature, she cast a long shadow! She met many people and always left a lasting impression with her warm heart and kind smile. She is already missed but will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts.
At this time, the family will not be holding a Celebration of Life. They will be sure to inform family and friends if a Celebration will be held at a later time. The family would also like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the wonderful care team at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. If desired, Memorial Donations in Leanne’s honor may be made to a local animal shelter or pet rescue, which would be exactly what she would have wanted.
