Mr. Walter ‘Wally’ ‘Cool’ Pennell Sr. passed away peacefully, at his home, on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the age of 76 years. Walter was born on October 7, 1947, at Paradise, Newfoundland to Walter and Florence Pennell. He was raised with his six brothers and nine sisters, Lock, Herb, Mac, Chess, Nelson, Jim, Lilly, Joan, Janet, Jane, Ruby, Florie, Brenda, Doreen, and Michelle, with whom he shared so many cherished memories. In the late 1960’s, he headed out to Toronto, Ontario, to pursue a career in sheet metal work. Upon returning to Newfoundland in 1973, Wally met and married Deborah Powell. They built their home on Pennywell Road and had two sons. They resided there until the early 1990’s. Wally accepted the Lord and was baptized on July 22, 1990, in St. George’s, Newfoundland. He resided at his little house on Paradise Road until June 2004, at which time he took a weeklong trip to Alberta to attend Michael’s wedding. That trip turned into a permanent move, and he remained in Alberta, where he became lovingly known as ‘pop’ to everyone he met. He spent the last ten years prior to retirement working in the Oilfield. After his retirement, he spent his time with his sons and their families, friends, and his brothers and sisters in Christ. He was a kind and generous man. He was a proud Grandpa and loved his girls. He loved to fish, and he was always ready for lunch. Rest in Peace pop –

Left with fond and loving memories, Wally will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Walter Jr. (Nadia) and Michael (Christa); their mother, Deborah; and his granddaughters, Hailey Jane, Hailey Raey, and Sadie Grace, as well as numerous other family members and dear friends. Wally was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Florence, and his brother, Herb. A Public Visitation was held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 12:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Wally’s Life will be held at a later date.
