It is with deep sadness that the family of Mr. David Ian Maxwell announces his passing at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 12, 2026, at the age of 79 years.
David was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on February 28, 1947, to Ian and Irene Maxwell. He was raised and educated in Edmonton, apart from a few years spent in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Following graduation, David attended the University of Alberta, where he earned his Bachelor of Education Diploma. In 1968, David married Sharon Diane Mann. Around that same time, he began his teaching career as a Physical Education teacher at Westlock High School. He was also blessed with two sons, Michael in 1972 and Steven in 1974. Throughout his career, David coached numerous varsity teams, including boys’ and girls’ basketball, volleyball and soccer. Over the years, he expanded his teaching into fields of social studies and law, remaining a dedicated educator until his retirement. David and Sharon later moved from Westlock, Alberta to Innisfail, Alberta in 2010 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, who brought them immense joy.
David will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael David Maxwell and Steven Scott Maxwell; his sister, Maureen Boseley; and his two cherished grandchildren. David was predeceased by his wife Sharon, in 2023; his parents, Ian and Irene Maxwell; and his sisters, Jean and Donna.
